Prayer of One Whose Child Is Handicapped
Father absolute,
The life you sent
is not what we awaited.
The thanks I thought
would spill my heart
is still and
will not move my lips.
Yet, this child is mine,
and will be loved,
as you love us all.
Help me learn new ways of walking,
if this small pilgrim cannot climb the path.
Show my eyes the world he sees.
Touch my ears, and let me hear
the music of his song.
Blaze his beauty on my soul,
and let me not forget
every flower in the field
has color of its own.
And every star affords its place,
transfiguring a blackened sky.
